Rat Control in Brevard & Orange County, FL
Roof rats in the attic or palms? We trap what's inside and close overhead access — tree limbs, power lines, and soffit gaps — so new rats can't replace them.
Central Florida's palms and citrus favor climbing roof rats more than ground-dwelling Norway rats. Exclusion that only seals the foundation misses how they actually enter.
We favor traps and sealing over broad poison use to avoid dead-rat odor in walls and secondary poisoning of hawks and owls.
Signs of a Rat Problem
- Night running or scratching in attic or ceiling.
- Capsule-shaped droppings larger than mouse pellets.
- Gnawed wiring, PVC, or wood — sometimes electrical issues.
- Grease trails on beams, rafters, or exterior walls.
- Disturbed citrus, garden produce, or palm fruit overnight.
Our Rat Control Process
- Inspect roofline, soffits, and overhanging vegetation.
- Recommend limb trimming that removes roof jump access.
- Snap-trap and exclude; minimize poison-only programs.
- Seal with steel mesh rats can't re-chew.
- Sanitize attic and treat insulation when contaminated.
Florida Law & Compliance
Trapping and exclusion reduce dead-animal odor risk and secondary poisoning of raptors common across Brevard and Orange County. See FWC nuisance wildlife rules →
| Factor | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Number of entry points | More access points mean more exclusion material and labor time |
| Attic/roof accessibility | Steep, multi-story, or tile roofs require extra safety equipment |
| Presence of young/litter | Family removal takes extra time and a humane handling approach |
| Extent of damage | Insulation replacement, wiring repair referrals, and sanitation add scope |
| Recurring or unresolved activity | Prior incomplete exclusion elsewhere may require more extensive sealing |
Rat Control FAQs
Why do rats keep coming back after attic treatment?
Because something still touches the roof. A limb, a power line, or a palm boot is a bridge. Whatever you caught inside is replaced by the next rat that walks that bridge. We cut the route and close the gap. A bait station with the oak still on the shingles is not exclusion.
Are they roof rats or Norway rats?
Roof rats are slimmer, with a tail longer than the body, and they nest up high. Norway rats are stockier and they burrow. In Florida attics and palms, roof rats are the usual animal. The species changes where we seal. We confirm it on the inspection instead of guessing from a scratch in the ceiling.
Do you remove rats from palm trees?
Yes. A mature palm is normal roof-rat cover in Florida, not a side note. If the rats are in the boots and also in the attic, treating only the house leaves the harbor ten feet away. The assessment includes the trees that touch the roof.
